Gene Edwards

Gene and I go back a long time, so when he contacted me to shoot one of his performances, I was happy to hook up with him once again.  Gene is a singer/guitarist with a county style. In addition to shooting the performance, he wanted to have some new promo shots as well. Being that I was limited to the location of the concert, I was hoping for a interesting backdrop other than the stage to capture a little bit of that country feel.  He was scheduled to go on stage around 3:00 in the afternoon, so all the promo shots would have to be taken before hand. Here were some of the issues I had to consider:
  1. Outdoor Venue - Unpredictable weather.
  2. Midday Sun - Not the most flattering light to shoot in.
  3. Limited location - Finding a convenient area to do the promo shots at the venue.
  4. Limited Time - Unable to set up supplement lighting if needed.
I arrived and met gene about about an hour before his set.  As far as the weather, I lucked out.  It was a cloudy overcast day.  I was gifted with nature's giant soft box (so much for shooting in hard light).  After scoping out the venue, just stage left, I eyed a distressed wood sided building that I felt would be perfect for the promo shots (how convenient was that). With my time limited, I immediately went to work.

With the promo shots done, Gene was ready to go onstage.

With a little bit of help from Mother Nature and luck, all my concerns before the shoot, were a non issue.  Sometimes everything just falls into place.
