Omega Speedmaster Professional
The manual winding Speedmaster Professional or "Moonwatch" is Omega's best-known and longest-produced; This model was worn by Astronaut Ed White during the first American spacewalk as part of NASA's Gemini 4 mission and was the first watch worn by an astronaut, walking on the moon during the Apollo 11 mission. Though Neil Armstrong was the first to walk on the moon, he left his Speedmaster on the Lunar Module as a backup because the LM's timer had malfunctioned. Buzz Aldrin elected to wear his and so his Speedmaster became the first watch to be worn on the moon.
Perhaps the most eventful use of this model watch was on the Apollo 13 mission, when Astronaut Jack Swigert used it to time a critical 14 second mid course correction, which allowed for the crew's safe return from space. The Speedmaster Professional remains one of several watches qualified by NASA for spaceflight and is still the only one so qualified for EVA.
